the walls, the doors, & the peephole
2025

Poster design
Supported by the Design Museum of Chicago

This design is inspired by the Kōbō Abe quote: “More than iron doors, more than walls, it is the tiny peephole that really makes the prisoner feel locked in.” The work explores themes of visibility, control, and perception through layered transparencies, evoking both the limited perspective of the prisoner and the constant exposure they endure. The design references public imagery and media portrayals, including archival newspaper visuals of the 1962 Alcatraz prison escape.
